"Explore various takes on the theme of femininity at Studio West as the new exhibition, The Angel in the House, takes over the Kensington gallery. While the exhibition’s title is inspired by the Victorian phrase used to signify a saintly, silenced and submissive wife, the artists featured here question and complicate historical and contemporary understandings of femininity, bringing to light the many facets of their experiences. There’s a focus on ‘gender within the home’, causing viewers to piece together seemingly unconnected objects – flowing silks, bejewelled brooches and polished jugs – to understand the archaic term from a 21st-century perspective. Catch highlights from artists such as Pippa El-Kadhi Brown, Olha Pryymak, and Grace Tobin until mid-July."
