PANEL DISCUSSION | SKIN DEEP: Hosted by Emily Steer

22 March 2023
STUDIO WEST presents a panel discussion hosted by arts journalist and psychodynamic psychotherapist-in-training, Emily Steer, on the occasion of our current exhibition SKIN DEEP

Featuring exhibiting artists C. Lucy R. Whitehead, Naila Hazell and Nina Baxter, the panel discussion will offer insight into their practices, while positioning their work in conversation with the pertinent themes of the exhibition including the power of self-authorship, the experience of painting one's innermost thoughts and the role of the body as an unintentional archive of experience and trauma.

The discussion will also touch on the central ideas of the two texts that inspired the exhibition: Bessel van der Kolk's 'The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma' and Melissa Febos' 'Body Work: The Radical Power of Personal Narrative'.

Join us in the gallery on Wednesday 22 March from 7pm to hear the artists in conversation with Emily Steer. Light refreshment will be served, and questions from the audience will be welcomed throughout.
