NOW INTRODUCING III: Dispelling the Jargon | 31 January 2022 | 7-9PM

Whether legal, art world, or otherwise, the art industry is full of jargon that artists often don't understand. A sometimes overlooked fact is that an artist is also a business, and must come up against matters such as signing contracts, organising insurance, setting a commission rate, shipping, money laundering regulations, intellectual property protection, and managing VAT, subjects which are rarely even touched on at art schools and as a result entirely lost on many of us without a law degree. Yet, it is very important as an artist to protect yourself - don't fall prey to decades long consignment agreements, instagram scammers, meagre commission rates or buyers who decide not to pay for their commissioned work after all.

Our 'Dispelling the Jargon' workshop will break down the ins and outs of the 'professional' in professional artist - offering some very 'real world' advice, led by Studio West Gallery Director and former Lawyer, Caroline Boseley and ten year qualified Barrister who specialises in Art and Cultural Heritage Law, Racheal Muldoon. This crash course in the business of art is an absolute must for the emerging artist - expect checklists, top tips, and possibly even a whiteboard. Questions will be welcomed throughout from the audience.
