Charlie Boothright

Overview

“My work is at a constant tension; I use two dimensional objects to construct an intangible reality that wades through psychological space.” – Charlie Boothright

Primarily an abstract painter, Charlie Boothright creates expressive impasto works that act as emotional landscapes. Driven by a myriad of personal experiences and moments of introspection, her pieces convey both her inner-world and encourage viewers to connect with their own.

Her paintings are produced through an ongoing act of transcribing her energy onto the canvas. They continuously evolve and regenerate before they reach a final form. This process is intrinsically physically demanding, necessitating the movement of her entire body and, as a result, creating a haptic conversation between herself and the canvas. It also offers her works a durational quality, each piece is a record of the time spent and effort exerted in its creation.
