Georgia Theologou

Overview

“I consider the people I portray to be experiential beings, whose entire environment coexists with their inner world.” - Georgia Theologou

Instantly recognisable for their bright colour palette, expressive brushstrokes and rich textures, Georgia Theologou’s paintings centre on the realities of human experience and the psyche. She instigates themes of trauma and sexuality through renderings of the human form in its simple beauty. Beneath her works are undercurrents of fragility, introversion and desire.

The individuals pictured in her works are drawn from photographs of friends, family and passing glances of strangers yet they are intrinsically unusual. Their environment, embodiment and inner-worlds exist in complete synchronicity and symbiosis. They betray emotion in a haze of natural and human elements, appearing like a half recollected memory. Every figure is displayed in a moment of complete self acceptance, strange yet simple and poised somewhere between beauty and alienation.
